How To Get Over A Hangover: Remedies to Get Rid of a Hangover Fast

Being hungover may be one of the worst feelings in the world.

When you’re hungover, it can feel like the world is actually ending. Whether you had too much to drink or if you’re like me and just had one sugary cocktail, your body, unfortunately, pays for it the next day. No one likes to feel hungover, but sometimes you have days that you can afford to lay in bed all day and recover. Other days, not so much. Regardless of what you have going on, these tips will help you cure your hangover in no time.

My first tip to cure your hangover actually has to do before you go to bed after a night out of drinking. I found that if I want to wake up feeling somewhat decent in the morning, I need to drink at least 3-4 glasses of water before bed.

This really works.

If you’re worried that you might forget of getting water before going to bed, I always make sure I have a tall water bottle filled with water next to my bedside table to so once my head hits the pillow I don’t have to move and can ensure that I get my water before I go to bed. If you do only one thing to avoid being hungover, this is the most important tip!

The first thing I do after a night of drinking and I don’t necessarily feel my best, is when I wake up in the morning, I like to detox my body and try to get rid of everything in my body from the night before. I personally love gentle detox green teas to start the detox process and help my body get the alcohol out of my system.

Without going into too much detail, this tea just simply (and gently) starts to get things moving so you can instantly start to feel better.

Although when you’re drinking alcohol you’re consuming liquids, you’re actually dehydrating your body. This is why it’s essential to start rehydrating your body with the water before bed and as soon as your wake up in the morning. I have a cup of this tea along with a water bottle full of water.

If I’m still not feeling 100% after detoxing my body, I like to take some ibuprofen and some vitamins. I don’t take ibuprofen too often, but when my hangover’s killer, it’s a must. Taking vitamins will also help speed up your hangover recovery by feeding your body some of the nutrients it’s currently lacking.

After that, it’s important to refuel your body with lots of nutrients.

I feel like it’s incredibly common to craving something fried and greasy when you wake up in the morning hungover.

I’m not going to lie and say that I don’t let myself have something fried and greasy after waking up, but I try to put something good in my body first. Your body will feel so much better after getting the nutrients it needs. You could quickly whip up a green smoothie, or I sometimes plan on having a green juice in the fridge prepared if I know I’m going out the night before. This way I can just chug a bunch of healthy fruits and veggies almost instantly.

After I fill my body full of liquid nutrients, I’m normally still pretty hungry. Some ‘hangover cure breakfast foods’ that I try to incorporate into my hangover routine include:

Egg Scramble with Toastpexels-photo-89235 (1)

Eggs are full of amino acids like cysteine which helps your liver and also breaks down chemicals that produce that horrible hangover headache you get. Vegetables are obviously packed with a lot of vitamins and nutrients, so they’re a tasty, healthy addition to this breakfast. I like to add toast with butter and put the scramble on top like an open-faced sandwich. This makes me feel like I’m getting that ‘greasy’ breakfast that I’m craving, but it’s still super healthy and full of nutrients.

Oatmeal with Fresh Fruithealthy-lunch-meal-fruits

Oats are full of nutrients like calcium, vitamin B, magnesium, iron which instantly makes your body feel better and energized. I love mixing my oatmeal with some fresh fruit and a source of healthy fat such as mixed nuts or coconut.

After I eat, all I really want to do is go back to bed. Sometimes that’s an option, while other times it’s not. Taking a shower is something that makes me instantly feel better, no matter if I’m sick or hungover, (or sick because I’m hungover!). When I’m clean, I instantly feel a million times better.

It’s okay to have a lazy day if you’re not feeling like being a functioning individual that day. Most of the time, I normally plan my nights out only when I know that I can be a lazy, curl up on the couch and watch some Netflix all day.  However, no one likes feeling hungover. If you adopt these tips, your day will be so much better and your hangover will be cured so much quicker.
