Looking for a peaceful Gippsland tiny house getaway? Our off-grid escape to Allambee delivered the perfect mix of quiet, comfort, and autumn adventure just a few hours from Melbourne.
We stayed in a tiny house tucked into the rolling hills of South Gippsland, surrounded by towering trees and the kind of stillness that immediately makes you slow down. With no Wi-Fi or reception, it was the reset we didn’t know we needed.
Despite being completely off-grid, the tiny house was surprisingly well-equipped. Heated blankets, a full kitchen, quality linens, and even a composting toilet (which, to our surprise, was completely fine and odour-free!) made the space feel warm and comfortable from the moment we arrived.
Where We Stayed

This tiny house in Allambee, Victoria, offered the kind of retreat that encourages you to do less and enjoy it more. We spent our time cooking over the open fire, wandering the property trails, playing card games, and soaking in the quiet.

If you’re after a digital detox that doesn’t skimp on comfort, this stay is a great choice. Perfect for autumn, but equally cosy year-round.

What We Loved
Lookout Hike at Wilsons Promontory

This scenic hike is the perfect mix of effort and reward. We walked in cool autumn weather, stopping at the top to enjoy sweeping views and a packed lunch. Along the way, we spotted wallabies and even a couple of emus. The Prom has plenty of well-marked trails to suit every energy level.

Wine Tasting at Fleet Wines
Fleet Wines is a hidden gem in South Gippsland with a relaxed atmosphere and beautifully crafted wines. The space is laid-back yet thoughtfully styled, making it ideal for a slow afternoon of sipping and chatting.

Cider Tasting at Gurney’s

Just a short drive from Wilson’s Prom, Gurney’s Cidery was our go-to post-hike stop. The cider tasting, especially the warm spiced mulled cider, hit the spot on a cool afternoon. The views over the water were beautiful, and the relaxed vibe made it a standout.

A Stop at Ripplebrook Winery
We stopped by Ripplebrook Winery on our way to the retreat and were so glad we did. A peaceful spot surrounded by countryside views, it’s perfect for stretching your legs and enjoying a glass of local wine before check-in.
Peaceful Walks on the Property

The property itself has several trails through native bushland. We wandered through the trees at golden hour and even met a few friendly farm animals along the way. A lovely way to start or end the day.
Open Fire Cooking at the Tiny House

One of the highlights of our stay was cooking meals over the open fire. We made both breakfast and dinner this way—simple meals, but the experience made them feel special. A perfect way to connect and unwind.
Cosy Game Night In

We brought a few of our favourite games from home and also made use of the ones provided at the house. After a full day of exploring, we played cards, started a puzzle, and switched off from screens.
Exploring the Charming Town of Loch
On our drive through South Gippsland, we stopped at the town of Loch. It’s a quaint main street filled with thoughtfully styled boutiques, antique shops, and cosy cafes. A perfect spot to spend the morning with coffee in hand.
Final Thoughts
This Gippsland tiny house getaway reminded us how easy it is to feel a world away without travelling far. Whether you’re after a quiet weekend, an autumn hiking trip, or just a moment to reset, Allambee offers something for everyone.
We came back feeling grounded, well-fed, and already planning our next stay. You can check out more of our Australian stays and adventures here.
