Family-Friendly Entertaining at The Great Escape, Cannonvale Rental Property

Our second accommodation on our Whitsundays Adventure after our sailing adventure was two nights at The Great Escape in Cannonvale. The town of Cannonvale itself is a retreat away from the Airlie Beach/Whitsundays scene and is the perfect place for your family to stay when traveling to the Whitsundays area.

Cannonvale is a small coastal town that is located right next to Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays area, but is specifically known as “where the locals go to escape the tourists.”

Whether you’re a tourist or not, Cannonvale is a great option to stay in the Whitsundays area, with a little bit more peace and quiet and a lot more space.

Accom Whitsundays offers a diverse range of holiday rentals across Airlie Beach and its nearby rural and coastal towns. As I mentioned in my previous Whitsundays accommodation review, I absolutely love staying in apartments and homes when traveling. I love having that freedom and feel at home when traveling which can sometimes be difficult to do when staying at a hotel, so if I have the option to stay in a house or apartment, I definitely take it up!

The Great Escape, Accom House Rental is the perfect space to host your family vacation in Whitsundays with its large open floor plan and large entertaining areas, your family won’t want to leave after staying here.

When you first enter the property, you’re greeted with a full laundry area with plenty of room to wash, dry and fold all your clothes. Especially when traveling to a destination for a couple of days, laundry is such a handy thing to be able to do. Doing laundry when traveling not only allows you to pack less, but I always like to wash as many as my clothes before packing and returning home so I don’t arrive back home with a suitcase full of dirty laundry. It just makes the whole unpacking experience a little less miserable when I get home.

Next to the laundry area, is stairs that lead you to the front door. This house is clearly on the newer side and everything is extremely clean and modern. When you enter through the front door you’re greeted with a long hallway with the master bedroom directly on the right.

The layout of this house is really nice and especially with traveling with family, having the master bedroom in a separate area, allows the parents to stay separate from the kids pretty easily and have a little retreat.

The master bedroom was very spacious with a large bed, dual nightstands and dresser and a tv with Netflix on it. The master also had a huge walk-in closet and a generous size master bathroom with dual vanity sinks and a large stand-up shower. We were definitely more than comfortable with the space in the master bedroom and ensuite.

Following through the rest of the hallway, you enter one of the spare bedrooms which have an adjoining bathroom with the other spare bedroom connected as well. Both of these rooms are also a very comfortable size and perfect for two kids or even for four. The bathroom here is also perfect if you have young kids with a stand-up shower and a separate bathtub.

The rest of the home is the living and entertaining space and there’s plenty of it!

Following out of the bedrooms, there’s a large wrap around couch and flat-screen TV, where your family can enjoy countless Netflix movie nights. Behind the lounge area is where the large dining room table is located and is definitely a grand size, perfect for fitting a large family.

The kitchen was beautiful with white stone countertops and new kitchen appliances. As I mentioned, the house is very new so everything is very modern in the house.

The kitchen has every basic necessity that you will need during your stay, but you will have to do some shopping for cooking staples like oil, salt and pepper to cook during your stay.

I love cooking when we travel away. It’s a nice way to not only save money but to eat a little healthier while traveling, especially if you’re traveling with your family, eating out for every meal can definitely add up really quickly. Eating out is a great way to experience a new destination, but after a while, I tend to get sick of eating out and need a home-cooked meal. Since we stayed at the Great Escape rental property the last couple days of our trip, we were definitely in the mood for a couple of home-cooked meals, which was perfect.

This home was made for entertaining.

With its grand open floor plan, it’s the perfect space for the family to hang out and not feel cramped or crowded.

The entertaining area continues with an outside table on the wrap-around porch overlooking the amazing view of Cannonvale and Cannonvale Beach. Since Whitsundays has such beautiful weather, you’ll definitely be utilizing the porch a lot during your holiday here.

Next to the dining area is a relaxing hot tub and a half bathroom which is incredibly handy after being in the hot tub and not wanting to go into the house dripping wet. We enjoyed the hot tub one evening with a glass of wine and taking in the beautiful view of the town. It was definitely a fantastic way to end the evening and I highly recommend it.

In my opinion, entertaining isn’t complete without a cheeseboard.

Luckily, I found this stone cheese board kit and was able to put together a beautiful spread and spend some time outside on the wrap-around porch enjoying the beautiful view and weather.

Although this property is advertised as an “escape” it’s not as far removed from everything as you may think. The property itself is in a beautiful location, only a couple minutes walk from Cannonvale Beach, some delicious cafes like Fat Frog Cafe, and from the shopping centre where you can pick up takeaway, groceries, and other beach accessories you need for your holiday.

We didn’t have a rental car at our Accom Rental and had no problem getting around the area. We took a taxi from Airlie Beach after our Sailing Adventure to the house because we had all of our luggage, but other than that, we just walked everywhere.

To get from the Cannonvale Rental house to Airlie Beach you just need to follow the Bicentennial Walkway. It’s such a gorgeous walk, but it’s not that quick and will probably take you about 45 minutes to walk the whole walkway so keep that in mind when exploring the area.

That being said, we had no problem walking it and it went by incredibly fast with the stunning views of the Coral Sea Marina and Airlie Beach along the way.

If you’re looking for a holiday escape that’s perfect for the whole family, you definitely should check out The Great Escape in Cannonvale.

Our Wandering Mind got the amazing opportunity to partner with Whitsundays Tourism and Accom Rentals for our Whitsundays Adventure. As always, all thoughts and opinions are completely my own.
